GET TO KNOW YOUR THERAPIST

I strive to live out my value of “authenticity” within my personal and work life. My hope is that as you peruse my website you get a sense of who I am as a person and a clinician in order to determine if we would be the best fit for working together.

My name is Dr. Margaret (“Maggie”) Piper and I was born and raised in Miami, FL. I grew up playing competitive soccer and went on to play collegiately at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. After my freshman year, I left the collegiate sports world and went onto build my identity and passions in other areas of life–including psychology.

My experiences as a Division I student-athlete and navigating a world driven by diet culture and the thin ideal largely shaped my desire to dive into the counseling world with a focus on eating disorders.

I have lived in Colorado for three years with my partner and our dogs (Dexter and Mabel—you will see them throughout the website and sometimes as guest appearances in the background of a telehealth session). Hiking, winter sports, cooking for friends, DIY projects, exploring Denver’s coffee shops and music venues, reading, and trying to keep plant children thriving, are what keep me energized and fulfilled.

Education, Experiences, and Training

I earned my B.A. in Psychology and my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas Tech University. Throughout graduate school I completed my clinical training in a variety of settings including TTU’s counseling center, an ADHD/LD assessment center, a private practice, and community mental health.

Following my PhD program I traded the plains of West Texas for the mountains of Colorado. I completed my APA-accredited doctoral internship at the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) where I served on the Eating Disorder Team.

After my internship I completed a postdoctoral residency at a group practice specializing in providing outpatient care to individuals working on building better relationships with food and body image.

Throughout my training I predominantly worked with college-aged and adult populations. I have ample experience working with eating disorders, anxiety, perfectionism, depression, grief, relational concerns, adjustment, other trauma-related concerns, ADHD, and athletic identity.
